Do you have the passion and skills to help empower a young person to develop and grow?

The Children’s Society’s Climb project is a preventative service that supports children and young people (10-17) who are at risk of being exploited or exposed to criminal activity. Climb is funded by West Mercia’s Police and Crime Commissioner and works with young people in Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. The service aims to reduce a young person’s risk of exploitation by providing them with great role models and positive activities to give them the opportunity to enjoy new skills in a safe environment. 

Our Volunteer Mentors will support these young people and assist them to engage in positive activities. These activities include but are not limited to, sport, crafts, music and dance. Mentors will also be asked to spend a small amount of time with the young person outside of these activities – spending time with them in the community, giving you both an opportunity to talk and listen.

This is a rewarding role and you will be part of a friendly team providing you with support and ongoing supervision. You do not need any specific qualifications as full training for your role will be provided.

Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be able to commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months. We will do our best to match you with a young person within your area. Expenses are paid.

What will this role require you to do?

- Build a supportive and trusting relationship with a young person.

- Schedule meetings with the young person and undertake different activities of their interest such as music, art, playing football in the park or engaging in school activities.

- Actively listen to them and their views, support them with any issues and encourage the young person to engage with school and other services as appropriate.

- Support the young person to achieve personal goals, obtain skills for the future or apply for educational, employment or vocational opportunities as appropriate.

- Communicate any safeguarding concerns with the Volunteer Co-ordinator or other agencies as appropriate.

- Submit contact notes within 24 hours of each contact/visit with the young person and attend agreed supervision sessions with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Brookside Community Pantry improves the lives of people in the local neighbourhood helping to make differences to financial situations whilst bringing people together to strengthen the community and contribute to healthier, happier lives. 

Brookside Community Pantry offers a personal shopping experience where customers have time to chat with staff, volunteers, and other shoppers. Meal plans and recipes are created to give people ideas to prepare healthy food options. 

Volunteer responsibilities will be to: 

Welcome and assist customers with their shop.  

Provide information about the Pantry scheme and products. 

Ensure areas are kept to necessary hygiene standards.  

Help with sales transactions and packing customers purchases. 

A growing number of people are housebound, isolated and lonely, or at risk of becoming so. 
Bird feeding can provide great pleasure to those who are housebound and a weekly visit by a bird feeding friend can offer valuable regular social contact.
Volunteers are matched with someone in the community (preferably nearby in adjacent streets) who is isolated or at risk of becoming so, with the aim of helping them attract birds to their garden.

Volunteers will visit clients in their home, once/twice a week for up to an hour, to help feed the birds. This will include,putting up bird feeders, cleaning them, replacing seed and chatting about birds that have been using the feeders.

Club 2000 Sport and Leisure are a friendly and inclusive club where people with disabilities, including learning disabilities can meet to socialise as well as taking part in organised activities.

Club 2000 meets at the Oakengates Leisure Centre in Telford from 6.30 - 9.00 p.m. on a Thursday evening.

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to learn and take on a role that has some responsibility within a well-established club.

You do not need experience for this role, just a good friendly and outgoing personality.

As a volunteer for Club 2000, you will have the opportunity to give something back. The  enormous  achievement  you'll  experience doing  something  really  worthwhile  will  be  matched  only by  the  fun  you  will  have.  

You'll  be  working  with  like-minded  people  who  want  to  make  sure  the members have a good time and have great memories to look back on. So teamwork is important. You'll  make  good  friends;  you'll  learn  valuable  new  skills  and  grow  as  a  person;

You’ll be sure of a warm welcome from other volunteers and members.

As  a  volunteer,  there's  a  vast  array  of  things  you  can  get  involved  in,  from  helping  out  at  Oakengates Leisure  Centre  in the  gym,  at  the  craft  area, assisting with pool tournaments, assisting with the Bingo  or  the  Wii  Fit,  there  is  also  opportunity to assist  the  club  with  days’  out  to  places  like  Cadbury  World,  A  water  park  or  a  Barmouth  trip!
