As people become older and frailer it can become increasingly difficult for them to access social activities outside their own home. Befrienders make a huge difference to the quality of life of the older people they visit and it can be fun.
Volunteers provide a befriending service by visiting older people in their homes for one to two hours per week. This is a social visit to provide a good listening ear, promote and support a degree of independence and join in any hobbies the older person may have.
Volunteers will meet new people and encounter a whole range of different experiences. Older people are a font of knowledge and their stories and memories are priceless; there will be lots of shared laughter.
