Bounce and Rhyme volunteer.

Do you enjoy working with children?

Do you enjoy singing? Are you interested in introducing under 5s and their parents and carers to the pleasure of books and rhymes?

This could be the role for you.

The aim of the role is to lead a 30-minute singing and rhyme session for babies and children under 5 with their parents/carers. The sessions help children develop speech and language skills in a fun way and also has positive benefits for maternal mental health. This is an opportunity to make a difference to somebody’s day and have fun while you’re doing it.

As a volunteer you will be involved in leading a group of children, parents and carers in singing rhymes and songs. You will also set up the space for the activity.

You do not need to be musical or a singing expert, just have a willingness and enthusiasm to sing in public.

Due to the nature of this work, volunteers must be over 18 years of age.

- Newport Library

- Southwater Library

- Wellington Library

- Stirchley Community Library

- Donnington and Muxton Community Library

- Hadley Community Library.

Duties

To lead parents/carers and their children in singing and actions with a variety of nursery rhymes and songs.

Promote the library service.

Prepare for a session by putting out chairs, moving tables and rug etc.

Tidy and clear the area, putting furniture back at the end of a session.

 

Requirements

We are looking for someone Reliable Friendly and enthusiastic With good communication skills Who enjoys working with the under 5’s and can relate to the very young Who is comfortable singing in public There would be a full induction including manual handling training, training in delivering a session and observing a session before you are left alone. You would also be given guidance about where you can learn all the rhymes.

More Info

In addition to the training above, you would have a named member of staff as a contact and be invited to quarterly volunteer meetings to discuss how your role is going. There would always be other staff  in the library when a session is taking place and all children would be accompanied by a parent or carer.
