Volunteer Telford

Ramblers Wellbeing Walks, Telford and Wrekin currently run 17 walks across 11 different locations in Telford, most are weekly, with one running twice a month and 3 just once a month.

These walks are supported by 26 active leaders. Unlike many Ramblers Wellbeing Walks schemes, this is run by a purely volunteer group.  

The aims of the scheme are to provide free, friendly, dependable walks that only need good footwear. The walks are graded at 3 levels, none lasting longer than 90 mins.

The scheme is now looking for a Volunteer Coordinator.

The main tasks are:

- Updating the Ramblers website with amendments or new walks:

- Taking enquiries via phone or email from prospective walkers and walk leaders:

- Co-ordinating walk leaders who are volunteering to lead extra walks to cover gaps or to work on information stands at events:

- Acting as the link between the scheme and Ramblers.

The current co-ordinator only volunteered to take the role on a temporary basis and will support someone to take over.

Anyone with an interest is promoting physical and mental health through walking could take on the role. 

The role could also be split between 2 to 4 people.

Time Commitment:

The role currently takes up to 2 -3 hours per week.

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to deliver our free smartphone and tablet training to visually impaired people twice a month at Telford Central Library. Whether you are visually impaired yourself or sighted, if you are passionate about digital inclusion and great at interacting with people, we’d love to hear from you!

You don’t need to be an expert, all training will be provided. You will join the friendly group of volunteers at our ‘In Touch Telford Group’ who give demonstrations on how to use voice commands, talk back features, website navigation through audio and useful apps for people living with sight loss. All demonstration equipment will be provided.

Location: Shropshire Telford Central Library, Southwater

Hours: The service runs 1^st and 3^rd Wednesday of the month, 10.30am – 1.00pm. Excludes January and December. You will need to commit to at least one session per month.

Make a difference in your community and become a Cancer Champion.                         

Cancer champions can make a real difference to the lives and health of people in their local community within the Telford & Wrekin area by raising awareness of signs and symptoms of cancer and encouraging people to attend bowel, breast and cervical screening appointments.  

The role of Cancer champion involves:  

Encouraging people to take up screening invitations, know their body and report any concerns to health professionals                      

Listen and feedback the experiences and concerns and help us to understand what would makes things easier for people                     

Share helpful information and signpost to local GP & health services and provide reassurance to their community                     

Use every opportunity to encourage discussion around cancer, busting myths and sharing key facts                                                     

Tell others about the role of cancer champion and encourage them to join

We know engagement is low in certain groups and communities including (but not limited to) refugees, people with disabilities and severe mental illness and groups whose first language isn't English.

We are looking for people who understand these communities and are well engaged with them to help deliver key messages with trust and sensitivity and using words and phrases that are familiar and meaningful. 

A cancer champion raises people’s awareness about cancer, by engaging people in conversation. 

Volunteer Role Title: Café Assistant 

We are looking for volunteers to serve hot and cold drinks, cakes and pastries hygienically and maintain the professional presentation of the café.

 Key Responsibilities:

- To provide a warm welcome and friendly, helpful customer service

-  To comply fully with all Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations at all times

 - To prepare and serve teas/coffees, soft drinks,

 - Use barista machine

 - To serve cakes and pasties

 - Collect payment from customers for refreshments etc

 - Using the till

 - To engage with customers in a positive manner and have a knowledge of the project

General Duties:

 - Serving customers promptly and courteously and with a smile

 - Ensuring drinks cakes and pastries served to customers is of a consistently high standard and well presented

 - Clearance and clearing of tables

 - Maintenance of a clean and tidy environment at all times in the café area

 - Assisting in the set up and set down of the café according to procedure as required

 -  In accordance with Health and Safety Act 1974, to take care of own and customers Health and Safety at Work, this includes reporting any risks or potential hazards to Line Manager and Health and Safety Officer.
