Opportunity Description
Could you make a difference as a Volunteer Digital Champion?
Stay Telford are looking for Volunteer Digital Champions across the Telford and Wrekin borough to give support to people aged 65+.
You don’t have to be an IT whizz to be a Digital Champion – you just need a bit of spare time and enthusiasm to support others to use the internet to manage their wellbeing online.
As a Digital Champion you’ll support others to learn the basics of computers, smartphones, and the internet. You’ll offer advice, information and support to service users who want to access health and wellbeing services online or improve their confidence with the basics.
Our Digital Champions will work with learners one-to-one or in small groups or at local venues, for a minimum of 2 hours a week.
You will help to do things like:
- search the internet
- set up an email account
- look for health information online
- identify a scam
- Connect with friends and family using video calling
What is in it for you?
Stay Telford will provide free online training to support you in your role as a Champion– and you’ll receive a Certificate and an online Open Badge for each course you complete – you can put it on your CV and show others what you’ve done.
Digital champions will also provide ongoing support with a dedicated Champion Coordinator as well as monthly online Meetup opportunities with other Champions
Stay Telford will carry out a free DBS check
Reimburse you for travel expenses
And you’ll get the immense satisfaction that you’ve made a difference to someone else!
Requirements
What Skills do you need?
You need a good level of basic computer skills, but you don't have to be an IT genius.
Much more important is having enthusiasm and patience to spend some time helping others to get online.
Being a Digital champion is much more about people skills than it is about digital.
