Volunteer Telford

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to deliver our free smartphone and tablet training to visually impaired people twice a month at Telford Central Library. Whether you are visually impaired yourself or sighted, if you are passionate about digital inclusion and great at interacting with people, we’d love to hear from you!

You don’t need to be an expert, all training will be provided. You will join the friendly group of volunteers at our ‘In Touch Telford Group’ who give demonstrations on how to use voice commands, talk back features, website navigation through audio and useful apps for people living with sight loss. All demonstration equipment will be provided.

Location: Shropshire Telford Central Library, Southwater

Hours: The service runs 1^st and 3^rd Wednesday of the month, 10.30am – 1.00pm. Excludes January and December. You will need to commit to at least one session per month.

The Friends are all about promoting, conserving and protecting Telford Town Park. We enjoy the support of not only Telford & Wrekin Council Parks Department but the Southwater Event Group and also lots of local Town and Parish Councils in our borough. The Town Park is a very important space for Telford, not only for leisure activities but to assist in the renewing and cleaning of the very air we breathe. We have also started a new scheme called ‘Friends 4 Health’ by which people recovering from illness or perhaps with some mobility issues can be referred by one of several different health agencies, both Council and NHS, to spend some time with the Friends in order to assist in their recovery. With this in mind we have a range of special tools available.

Read Easy Telford and Shropshire East is affiliated to Read Easy UK, a national charity that helps adults learn to read and which has nearly 60 groups across England.

Read Easy Telford & Wrekin was established in 2019 and continues to grow to be a highly impactful local group with an increasing number of Reading Pairs (Reading Coach and Reader).

It is run by a hard-working, dedicated group of team members, all of whom are also volunteers.
The group is now seeking a new Volunteer Recruiter. 

Role:

To manage the recruitment process of all volunteers for the group, and interview volunteers with the coordinator or team leader.

What do you need to have?

What you will do:

The volunteer will be helping the chef in the preparation of meals, keeping the kitchen clean and tidy including fridges

Volunteer will also help in serving tea, coffee and cakes to customers.

Time commitment:

Monday to Friday between the hours from 12 noon till 2pm
