Purpose of the role:
To support children and young people in care by helping them understand their personal journey, express their feelings, and build a stronger sense of identity through creative and compassionate engagement. Work with the Life Story Work Team to deliver meaningful experiences that empower children to make sense of their past, contribute to decisions about their future, and share their stories in ways that promote healing, confidence, and connection.
Volunteer Responsibilities:
Help children understand their journey before care, into care, and throughout their time in care to promote their identity.
Work directly with children and young people to explore and understand their care journey.
Work alongside carers and birth families.
Contribute to creating a safe and supportive environment for children to express their feelings and share their stories.
Encourage children’s involvement in decision-making processes related to their care.
Collaborate with the team to ensure consistent and meaningful delivery of life story work.

As a volunteer with Telford & Wrekin Children’s Safeguarding & Family Support Service, you will be supporting children and families across the borough to achieve better outcomes.
Our volunteers bring many benefits, including different skills, diverse life experiences, and an understanding of their local communities.
Supervision:
Therapeutic Life Story Work designated team member and the Volunteer Coordinator will oversee and provide regular check ins, training updates and explore further volunteering opportunities.
Training:
All our volunteers undertake safeguarding training which allows us to safeguard the children, young people, adults, and families we support as well as protecting the volunteers themselves.
We will also provide role specific training and supervision to all our volunteers. Where possible, we match volunteers to service users based on needs and interests. Underpinning our approach is a commitment to positive and professional relationships between staff, volunteers, and service users to achieve lasting impact.
