Overview:

The aim of the café is to provide a relaxed and informal meeting place for all types of people in our community and further afield.

A place where they feel safe and welcomed and can enjoy a low-cost nutritious hot snack. It is therefore vital to the success of the café that the volunteers that run it understand that it is not solely a meal service, but is a source of support and recreation for the people who use the cafe and that a patient and cheerful disposition is essential!

Role Description  

We ask café volunteers to undertake the following tasks:

Interact with Leegomery Community Centre Staff and contribute to the smooth running of service.

Help maintain a clean and safe café area including cleaning tables and equipment used in the café

Serve customers, take hot and cold food and drink orders and make hot drinks and coffee

Provide a friendly, helpful and professional service to customers using the café.

Help clear tables, and restock condiments/refreshments.

Help with kitchen tasks such as cleaning dishes, wiping worktops, emptying bins, stocking fridges, and other duties as directed by Leegomery CC staff.

Help with Stock Control and ordering

Use till system and handle cash

Completing all food Hygiene checks and labelling and completing daily records.

Work as part of a team and assist where required including set up and clear up for groups using the café space

Assist with corporate catering where required and help with events that require catering, such as tea and coffee set-ups or buffets.

Take part in any relevant training where possible (Food Hygiene etc).

Be committed to helping implement our environmental food waste policy

Be familiar with the menu information and the different type of food available for customers

Volunteers must understand and promote the centre’s equal opportunities policy and at all times abide by the organisations health and safety policy and food hygiene guidelines.

Volunteers will be required to take training on basic food hygiene and health and safety.

Requirements

We are looking for volunteers who have: Good communication skills Catering experience desirable but not essential Ability to collect and administer money from refreshment sales Good time keeping skills Patience A welcoming and helpful attitude

Hours:  To be agreed based upon requirements of the Centre and availability of the volunteer.
