Volunteer Telford

Brookside Community Fridge with support from Stirchley and Brookside Parish Council and Brookside Central CIO have launched Telford’s first Community Fridge.

The aim of the Community Fridge is to enable residents and businesses to share surplus food and for anyone to help themselves to quality food that would otherwise be wasted.

Volunteers to drive to and pick up food donations from local businesses – this will ensure the community fridge remains full.

Tasks

• Respond to requests from our Big Local Team.
• Be able to drive and collect food donations from local shops.
• Deliver food donations to Brookside Community Fridge.
• Respond to requests from Big Local.
• Adhere to Policies and procedures set out by Big Local.
• Volunteers will work off-site picking up food surplus from local suppliers.
• Volunteers will be working alone so will adhere to the lone working policy and will complete a risk assessment with staff member.
• Volunteers will carry food stuff to Brookside Community Fridge.
• Regular evening pick- up sessions Monday to Thursday evenings (Times in line with shop timescales (Usually 2 hours before shop closes).
• Early pick up of food stuff from stores (07:00am- 09:00am).
• Drop food to Brookside Central early mornings (09:00am onwards).

Bardet-Biedl Syndrome (BBS) is a rare genetic disorder causing blindness, learning disability, obesity and many other symptoms. BBS UK is the only UK charity supporting those with BBS and is committed to promoting positive health and wellbeing within the BBS community.

We do this by providing a range of support, information and advocacy services ensuring that those who contact us are supported, connected and informed about BBS and empowered to achieve the best possible outcome BBS UK is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and are looking for trustees who bring a range of experiences and skills to complement our team.

Telford & Wrekin Council is advertising for more volunteers to join the Independent Appeal Panel dealing with primary and secondary school admissions and exclusion reviews. It is a requirement that the Local Authority’s School Admission Authority provides arrangements for appeals against decisions not to allow a child to attend a school or regarding a decision to exclude a child from a school within Telford and Wrekin.

The role

Admission panels comprise of three members to hear and determine appeals by parents who are not happy with the decision made about their child’s school placement. The panel is independent of the education authority and draws on a pool of lay and independent members to sit on particular appeals. This is an essential role that provides impartiality of decisions for parents and children in Telford and Wrekin.

Membership of the panel comprises of:

- People who have experience in education, who are acquainted with educational conditions in the local authority area, or who are parents of registered pupils in school. This can include current or previous head teachers, teachers, governors or parents

- Lay people, someone without personal experience in the management of any school or provision of education in any school except as a school governor or in another voluntary capacity.
