Volunteer Telford

The role of a reading helper places you in the heart of primary school life. You’ll be leading
reading sessions that bring a positive reading experience to children outside of the classroom.

Children will benefit from someone giving them one-to-one attention, showing them how much
fun reading can be and the purpose reading has in their lives.

You will build a positive learning relationship with individual children aged 4-11, maintaining a
regular weekly commitment. This consistency will build confidence, improve their engagement
with reading and allow their reading skills to rocket!

How it works
You will need to:
- Attend school weekly in the afternoon session(s) during which you’ll see the same children
each week
- Independently lead your sessions; you’ll have access to our brilliant books, online portal and
will quickly get into the swing of what works well for each child
- Liaise with school staff and our team as required

Could you spare the time to volunteer? Would you like to volunteer?  Would you like to help someone who is isolated become more active and involved in their community?

Could you accompany someone to a new activity? If the answer is YES, then you could be a 'Buddy' and we would really like to hear from you!

As a Buddy you could:

Help someone who feels isolated and alone to participate in local activities, make new friends and get more active.

Provide support that enables someone to take that crucial first step to take part in something new.

Offer encouragement and motivation to get someone involved in the local community, thereby reducing isolation and helping to boost their confidence and self-esteem.

Many of us would like to be more active but the idea of turning up at an activity such as an exercise class on our own can be very daunting.

Volunteers needed to work alongside the Community Development Worker on a NEW project within the Army Welfare Service in Telford.  This project is the AWS Donnington Youth Forum and is aimed at young people aged 10-16 years.

The team is looking for enthusiastic and motivated volunteers to work with young people aged 10 years+ who have parents/carers who work in the military (or have previously served or who are reservists)

The main focus of this work is to look at what youth provision or activities they would like to see in the area and help to shape services. 

This will be the beginning of the work- then going into providing what provision is planned.

Likely to be a Wednesday 5.30-7.00pm.  Project due to start in September 2024

Support in the process of enabling victims and perpetrators of crime to come together to collectively repair and find a positive way forward.

Approx. 3hrs per week
