Volunteer Telford

Our weekly day centres in Telford take place in local community venues and provide transport, activities, a two course hot lunch and friendship for local older people. They are all run by volunteers with the support of an Age UK Coordinator.

We are looking for volunteers to join our existing teams to help set up the room, greet members with a warm welcome, prepare and serve refreshments, wash up and help with a range of social activities and tidy up at the end of day.  

Being a Day Centre Volunteer puts you right at the heart of our work. You will interact with older people and help to make their time with us feel extra special. You will help our clients to feel comfortable, supported and add the magic 'spark' that makes our support so personal.

You'll help us to run a wide range of fun, safe and engaging activities such as arts & crafts and games, in addition to serving tea, coffee and refreshments.

Main Organiser Duties:

Duties include organising: a small volunteer team, a variety of activities and outings for members. Offering company and friendship to the members.

General administrative duties including: liaising with Shropshire/Telford and Wrekin Age UK, overseeing duty of care to members and volunteers, managing the accounts.

Volunteers provide a FREE delivery and collection service on our environmentally friendly cargo bike within a cyclable distance of central Wellington.

The service operates on market days on behalf of any market and independent high street traders as well as shoppers.

The service can be requested by those needing items collecting from their home and delivered elsewhere in our town. (e.g. Donations to a specific charity shop).

The service is operated from the Wellington Market Hall.

Each shift lasts 2 hours and a volunteer would undertake no more than one shift each week.

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 1000 and 1400. Saturday 0930 till 1200

Planting, weeding, watering, simple garden tasks. Instruction given. 

One morning per month. 2nd Tuesday of every month from 10 till 1pm, weather permitting.

Volunteers would report to the team leader, James Warham. They are responsible for themselves and any children they bring.

No training beforehand.  Learning is mostly on the job.
