It is a testament to the entire Cavalier Centre community of volunteers, staff, trustees, participants and supporters that the Centre continues to grow and develop, despite a few difficult years.

Our ambition is to improve even more lives through activities based around our incredible team of horses and ponies, increase our work with volunteers, partners and supporters to benefit the community and become a centre of excellence for wellbeing and equestrianism to be enjoyed by all.

Yard Volunteer

Responsibilities

The role of a Yard Volunteer is to assist the Yard Staff in the day-to-day duties of running the yard and caring for the horses. A typical volunteering session may include some or all the below tasks:

Bringing horses to and from the field

Poo picking the fields, corrals and field shelters and emptying onto the muck heap

Providing the horses with hay in their corrals

Ensure the field water troughs are filled and free of blockages

Mucking out the stables

Filling and tying up hay nets in the stables

Filling and carrying water buckets to the stables

Grooming horses

Preparing horses for exercise

Cleaning tack

Keeping the yard and stable area clean and tidy

Support & Training

All volunteers undergo a basic training programme when they start their role with the aim of completing their Basic Training Green Card. Ongoing training opportunities are provided both through the Centre and through external providers.

Youth Leaders work directly with young people in St John Ambulance Badger Setts and Cadet Units. By organising a mixed weekly programme, this role will support the learning and development of young people into the next generation of health citizens.

Youth Leaders also help young people develop their confidence, teamwork skills, self-discipline, and generally encourage them to strive to be the best they can be, as well as supervise and support other adult volunteers in their team.

Cleaning Volunteer

Responsibilities

The role of a Cleaning Volunteer is to undertake various tasks to keep the Centre clean and tidy. The volunteer may work on their own or as part of a small team. Typical tasks might include:

Mopping

Hoovering

Disinfecting touch points

Dusting

Cleaning kitchen

Cleaning toilet facilities

Support & Training

All volunteers undergo basic training when they start their role. Additional training and support will be tailored to the individual

The purpose of role is to raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion’s mission by organising and conducting the Poppy Appeal in your designated area, working in support and under the guidance of the Local Community Fundraiser (CFR) and others appointed to assist.

Tasks.

- In conjunction with the local CFR carry out an annual review of the operation of the Poppy Appeal in your designated area and agree a set of actions to ensure the maximum possible funds are raised during the PA in your area.

- In conjunction with the local CFR, organise the recruitment and briefing of sufficient collectors and helpers to ensure sufficient coverage within your designated area.

- Maintain and share with the CFR, accurate records of collectors and helpers operating in your area.

- In conjunction with the local CFR, publicise and promote the Poppy Appeal in their area

- Arrange for ordering, storage, distribution and collection of sufficient poppies, collecting trays, tins, wreaths and other Poppy Appeal supplies and materials in your area, ensuring accurate records of locations and recovery are kept.

Location.

- At a pre-agreed location(s), usually within your designated area. You may also be required to visit the local Area Office, or other pre-arranged location for briefings, training or meetings.

 Support and supervision

- There will be on-going day to day support from the local CFR who will periodically meet with you to discuss your role, workload, training and personal development as a Legion volunteer.

 Availability

- In order for the role to be rewarding for you and the Legion, we ask that you give a commitment for a regular amount of time preceding and following the Poppy Appeal (normally the last two weeks of October the first two weeks of November).

We aim to make your volunteering with the Legion an enjoyable and rewarding experience. As a Legion volunteer you will be covered by our insurance, (but please note this does not Include the use of privately owned motor vehicles) and we will reimburse your travel expenses and other authorised out of pocket expenses.
