Opportunity Description
Overview and Aims:
To support a Youth Worker Professional in delivering Youth Club and Young People Community Development Services for the Leegomery Community Centre Youth Club.
To set up the first voluntary Youth Club provision at Leegomery Community Centre with support from Shropshire Youth Association and qualified staff.
As part of this journey, all volunteers will have the opportunity to gain a Level Three Youth Worker qualification and undertake other training opportunities.
To shape how we develop our services to young people with high standards and create a safe space for young people to come along to socialise, develop and grow in their community.
We are looking for volunteers who will:
Work alongside the Youth Worker and Centre to provide support and advice to young people accessing the Leegomery Community Centre Youth Club
Contribute to the planning of a wide range of engaging sessions for young people attending the Youth Club
Work in partnership with a number of key local organisations to build up strong networks that can support the Youth Club
Actively engage and encourage young people’s participation in their community
Maintain a quality service to young people across all provisions
Aid young people’s progressions to positive outcomes
Ensure safeguarding of young people
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required
- Ability to engage confidently challenge negative behaviour with, at times, hard to reach young people
- Ability to empower young people to be heard within their community, challenge stereotyping and seek opportunities to shed a positive light on young people’s contributions
- Be able to provide a positive role model for young people
- Knowledge and experience of working with young people
- Able to work with their own initiative to achieve agreed action plans
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with shared and overlapping objectives
- Ability to support members of an extended, geographically diverse, team
- A ‘can do’ approach
- Enthusiasm
- Commitment to motivate and inspire disaffected young people to achieve their potential
Desirable
- Ability to use information and communication technology
- Knowledge of the local community, its voluntary organisations and agencies
- Experience of dealing with a range of issues facing young people from a variety of backgrounds
- Experience of working with, and supporting, volunteers
- Experience of delivering youth clubs and community development
- A background in supporting and motivating individuals to achieve their potential
- Understanding and promotion of equal opportunities in both staff and client work

Additional Responsibilities
Work closely with the organiser who delivers community-based youth work at The Leegomery Community Centre Youth Club
Undertake training and other developmental activities as required
Operate within the policies and procedures of The Leegomery Community Centre & The Leegomery Community Centre Youth Club and its service provider
Ensure that the work reflects the organisation’s commitment to Equality and Diversity
Oversee the control, servicing, and maintenance of equipment
Maintain a teamwork approach to all aspects of the work
Promote and maintain a positive image of The Leegomery Community Centre Youth Club and its service provider as a responsible and professional service
Work as part of the organisation and undertake duties as required to ensure the strategic objectives of the organisation are achieved
